On the
22nd June 1955 the Battery was awarded the Honour of "Inkerman" so becoming 49 Inkerman Battery, The Battery was still part of 23 field Regiment. In 1958 the
Battery joined 42nd Regiment which at the that time was the first post war
Gunner Regiment, and was stationed in the Royal Citadel at Plymouth. The
Battery moved from there to Cyprus in 1962. Then returned to England to Pembroke
Dock as a medium Battery with 5.5in guns in 1964. In 1966 the Battery moved to
Lippstadt still with 5.5in guns until M109s replaced them in 1968. In 1970 the
Battery returned to England to Devizes and back to the 5.5in guns again. From
Devizes the Battery moved in 1972 to Fallingbostel in Germany as a heavy Battery
in the M107 role. In February 1977 the Battery Joined 40th Field Regiment in
Gutersloh reverted to being a Field Battery with the 105mm Abbott gun, then in
1981 for a short period was part of 47 Regiment. Then in 1982 moved to
Lippstadt, Germany as part of 27 Regiment as a M109 Battery. The Regiment then
returned to the UK in 1986 to Topcliffe in North Yorkshire as a FH70 Battery. Then again in 1991 the Regiment moved to Germany to Dortmund as a
M109 Battery. On the disbandment of 27 Regiment in 1993 the Battery re-joined 40
Regiment in Honne this time being re-designated 49 Inkerman Headquarter Battery.
While again in 1998 moving to Topcliffe in the UK. Then in 2008 the Battery
moved to Lisburn, Northern Ireland,where its currently serving.
