OCA MEMBERS ATTENDING THE REUNION OF REMEMBRANCE NOVEMBER 2008

The Battery was raised on 1st August 1779 as 9 Coy, 4 Battalion

 1848 re-designated and served as "G" Battery part of 2nd Division in the Crimea War.  Where at the Battle of Inkerman Company Sergeant Major Andrew Henry won the Victoria Cross defending No 6 Gun detachment against overwhelming numbers of the enemy.

Once again in 1889 the Battery was re-designated as 19 Field Battery  The Battery participated in the Zulu War, 4th July 1879 and took part in the Battle of Ulundi at the final defeat of the Zulus.

During the First World War the Battery served in France and Flanders including Neuve, Chapelle and Loos 1914-1915, Egypt 1918 and returning to France and Flanders 1918.

During the Second World War the Battery served in France 1939-1940, England 1940-1942, Madagascar 1942-1943, India and Burma 1943-1945. as part of  9 Field Regiment, 20 Indian Division

Again in 1947 the Battery was re-designated as 49 Field Battery part of 23 Field Regiment, On the 28th June 1955 the Battery was awarded the title of INKERMAN.

   As 49 Inkerman Battery the Battery served with various Regiments   23 Regiment - 42 Regiment - 40 Regiment - 47 Regiment -  27 Regiment

In 1993 the Battery was re-designated 49 Inkerman Headquarter Battery and is serving as part of  40 Regiment Royal Artillery.

49 Inkerman Battery Old Comrades Association was formed by Terry Walton in 1994,  The OCA now holds reunions every two years and has a membership of over 200 to view details of the next reunion.
